First Newsletter

August 27, 2010

Dear Families -

We survived the first three days of fourth grade and by all accounts, it was successful and fun. We played many get-to-know-you games, learned about fourth grade curriculum and classroom procedures, had our first Morning Meetings, had Tech, Music, and Art classes, read together, got our books and folders, and had lunch and recess with our friends!

Your child has a folder with him/her today. It is a temporary folder until the waterproof ones come in. This folder will act as the HOME folder, to go back and forth every day, for notices and homework assignments. It should be well taken care of and used for notes from you as well, as it will be the first item checked in the morning. Be sure to check it EVERY night, I rely on the connection.

The enclosed packet has a lot of pertinent information and should certainly be read. I included a schedule, which is a rough draft of what our day will look like. I did not include specifics, which will be added in a few weeks, nor did I specify the times for Guidance classes, Chorus (starting in February), Instrumental music classes, and frequent field trips. You will find a class list in the folder also.

I will be sending home regular newsletters, generally on Fridays, to keep you abreast of the goings on in Room 219. My hope is that it will be sent electronically to those who have e-mail access. Please get me your e-mail address if you haven’t already.

You are always welcome to call me at school (225-8243) or e-mail me (melissap@mpsvt.org) with any questions. I am very approachable and have an “open door” policy for families. I am greatly looking forward to this year!

Melissa Pierce (Mrs. P)

PS - There are several book orders included in the folder today. Feel free to order from any of them. The orders are all due back to me by September 3. Also, I need to be out Monday and Tuesday - we are moving! Beth Bingham will be here to substitute. Thanks!
